SummerRail – August 2-4, 2018

RailCats had the opportunity to visit the SummerRaill event hosted at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennesse. While there RailCats were able to Ride on a steam locomotive, ride on a dinner train with period style cars, and listen to railroad presentations. Travis Watts gave a 30 minute talk on the research that is ongoing at the University of Kentucky.

Engineer’s Day 2018 – Feb. 24, 2018


This years attractions included:

The University of Kentucky presented “Engineers Day” to the local community on Feb. 24, 2018. E-Day brings together the college and community to present research, student clubs, and local engineering firms. RailCats was proud to sponsor multiple booths in the Rail Lab. Presenters included The National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) which presented a professional model train layout, Operation Lifesaver who had a display promoting railroad safety, and displays from Michael Rehorn and James and Luke Chapman of Lego trains and an n-scale train set. Travis Watts and Ethan Russell also showcased some of the research that UK is doing regarding rail.

Bluegrass Railway Museum – Dec. 1, 2017













RailCats got the opportunity to explore a local railroad museum where they got to partake in a safety training, the coupling and uncoupling of cars to make up a train, and also a brake test. RailCats members also got the chance to actually operate a locomotive, including the acceleration and braking operations.
